Join us for our 15th annual Asinabka Film & Media Arts Festival in Ottawa, Canada on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Nation, over six days from September 15 to 20, 2026. Our Festival showcases a ton of films, in different genres and lengths, from Indigenous cultures and nations from Canada and around the world. You can also expect a thoughtfully curated art exhibit at Gallery 101, Q&A’s, hangouts, networking, and an epic music showcase at Club SAW.
This year's Festival theme is inspired by a show called Stranger Things. The catalyst for the show is a missing boy abducted by a monster from an alternate dimension. Some major themes of the show are supernatural forces and secret government conspiracies. The horrors of abducted children remind us of the horrors of residential schools, and government conspiracies remind us of that one aunt, uncle, or cousin who saw a UFO, or who watches too much X Files. We're super excited to showcase all of the amazing films and artists at Asinabka this year, so come watch films with us!
Chi-Miigwech and a big Thank You to all of the artists and filmmakers that made this year's Festival possible! Miigwech to all of our partners and supporters including DARC, Gallery 101, the Artscourt, SAW, the Embassy of Mexico in Canada, the National Gallery of Canada, Wapikoni Mobile, NFB, Video Pool, and Ottawa Festivals. And a big thank you and miigwech to our funders, The Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Government of Ontario, The City of Ottawa, and Telefilm Canada.
