Call for Submissions

5th Annual Asinabka Film & Media Arts Festival


        The 5th annual Asinabka Festival will be taking place in Ottawa, Ontario, August 10- 14, 2016. The Festival is currently seeking works from independent filmmakers, any film or video that tells First Nations, Métis, or Inuit stories, or focuses on international Indigenous issues, is eligible. Submissions can be in any genre (documentary, drama, animation, experimental etc.) or any length, and must be finished works. Preference will be given to new works produced within the last two years.


Format: Film and video submissions must be on DVD, a QuickTime or MP4 file on a USB drive, or an Internet link to the works online location.

All submissions must include the following:

1.  A short bio of the artist, director, and/or producer. Please state very clearly the Indigenous affiliation of a Key Creator (Writer/Director/Producer), or explain clearly how the work is eligible for submission (How is the subject matter Indigenous?).

2. A brief description of the work being submitted (1 page maximum)

3. Your contact information, year of production, format, running time, language(s), province or country of origin, premiere status (i.e. has it premiered in Canada, a Canadian city, or internationally), and 3 still images from the submission (at least 300 DPI, .in JPG, .PNG, or TIFF format).

Email submissions are welcome. There is no submission fee.

DEADLINE: Monday, May 16, 2016*

*Submissions must be received or post-marked by this date to be considered for the 2016 Festival.
